Why have a summer reading website ?
After 10 months of school everyone is excited for summertime. Sleeping in, holidays, and playing outdoors are all activities that quickly fill our days. But when our students return to school in September, they often tell us that they didn't read a single book over the summer months.
Why? Because they didn't know what to read. Without the guidance of a teacher and peers for book recommendations, reading time in the summer is reduced- if not completely eliminated.
The purpose for these book lists is NOT to challenge students to read everything on the list over the summer. These are not required reading lists. The lists are simply recommendations from peers who have read and enjoyed these books. You will see a variety of genre choice within each list- some books are easy and some books are challenging.
Over the summer allow your child to experiment with their reading interests and levels- because if they enjoy their summer reading choices-everyone wins!
At École Good Shepherd School we value reading and can't wait until September to hear about the adventures that happened between the pages of your summer books!
